The Priority System
Shadowrun 2e uses a priority system. You assign each of five letters — A B C D E — to one of five categories: Race, Magic, Attributes, Skills, Resources. Each letter is used exactly once. The cell at the intersection of priority and category tells you what you receive.
The table looks like a multiple-choice menu, but it's really a single allocation puzzle. Three rules make it interesting:
- A Metahuman (Dwarf / Elf / Ork / Troll) requires Race = A. Otherwise you're a human.
- B Magic is asymmetric. A Human Full Mage needs Magic = A, but a Metahuman Full Mage needs Magic = B (because Race already cost A).
- C Resources covers two budgets in one slot: nuyen (money) and Force Points. Only magicians use Force Points — mundanes leave them on the floor.
